Message From the Health Director: Tracey Simmons-Kornegay, PharmD

Often residents of Duplin County do not realize how much public health affects them everyday. Public Health is truly everywhere, everyday for everybody. Even if you never come into the Health Department building, you receive public health services.

An example is environmental health services which protect our food and water supply. Another example is communicable disease surveillance. Everyday public health staff monitor communicable disease and follow up on all reports to ensure appropriate treatment and measures are taken to protect the entire community. Public heath is available to respond to communicable disease outbreaks or disasters twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

Many services are offered at the Health Department that may be of interest to specific groups. We offer a diabetic education program  and are striving to decrease the burden of diabetes  by helping individuals control and manage the disease. The Health Department offers breast feeding support, home visiting services for pregnant women and children, and health educators for community outreach. Comprehensive clinical services are offered for adults and children.

The clinical services are provided by a highly qualified staff, which include Family Nurse Practitioners, Pediatrician, Physician Assistant, Registered Nurses, Nutritionists, interpreters, lab staff and management support. The Health Department accepts medical insurance, Medicaid and offers services on a sliding fee scale based on income.

Please take the opportunity to click on the links and learn more about the services of your Health Department. Our mission is to protect the public’s health and provide excellent affordable health care. I, along with all of the staff, take this responsibility very seriously.

We are here to serve you!

Sincerely,

Tracey Simmons-Kornegay,  Health Director
